1896, Girton College, Cambridge; the first college in Britain to admit women. The Girton girls study ferociously and match their male peers grade for grade yet go home empty handed. Tess Moffat and her fellow first years are determined to win the right to graduate. But little do they anticipate the hurdles in their way: the distractions of love, the cruelty of the class divide or the strength of the opposition.

Chicago is a darkly comic 1920s musical following Roxie Hart, a wannabe vaudeville star who murders her lover and ends up in jail. There she meets Velma Kelly, a fellow performer accused of murder. With help from slick lawyer Billy Flynn, both women manipulate the media to chase fame and freedom—sparking a fierce rivalry in a world obsessed with celebrity. Filled with jazz-inspired music and biting satire, Chicago exposes the corruption and glamour of crime and showbiz.

Wednesday 11th - Friday 13th March

The Mission Theatre will be hosting a large part of the Speech & Drama section of The Mid-Somerset Festival. The festival has run for over 120 years providing the opportunity for generations of young performers to build their confidence, and develop in all aspects of drama, music, dance and creative writing. For three days children and young adults will be competing at The Mission in acting, mime, verse speaking and many other performance disciplines.

The actor Arnold Ridley is best remembered as Private Godfrey, the much-loved character in the BBC TV series Dad’s Army. 

The part came towards the end of a long career and a truly remarkable life: Arnold survived the horrors and wounds of the First World War (the Somme in particular); then followed a start to a theatrical career when he began writing plays, one of which, The Ghost Train, has enjoyed immense and continued success.

Claudius has killed Hamlet’s dad, married his mum, and seized his throne - what’s an angsty royal teen to do? Hold onto your ruffs as we take you on a laugh-a-minute whirlwind tour of the Danish tragedy… with a little help from Frank Sinatra and Britney Spears, the Killers and Kanye West, ABBA, Queen, and Wicked!

Guaranteed fun and laughter in Bath Spa Theatrical Society’s production of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. A witty comedy that satirises Victorian society’s emphasis on social conventions, marriage and identity.

The play follows two friends, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who both lead double lives under the name “Ernest” to escape societal obligations and pursue love.

DNA by Dennis Kelly is a tense and unsettling story about a group of young people bound together by a terrible secret. When something goes wrong, panic sets in, and what begins as an accident becomes a test of loyalty, guilt and survival. 

Tense, and disturbingly human, DNA explores morality, manipulation, and the cost of complicity.

Dennis Kelly’s razor-sharp writing keeps audiences gripped to the very end, asking one haunting question: how far would you go to keep your place in the group?
